New England in Santa Barbara

A Boston native, the owner wanted to evoke the houses he loves in New England, but on a lot with a more than 180 degree view of the California coastline. Height limitations made second story dormers a happily traditional requirement and the large flat site allowed what appear to be rambling additions, much like the classic “big house, little house, back house, barn” configurations of New England, making the result look more like an all-American farm compound than a single house. The owner loved the design and construction process and had the means to encourage everyone to take the time to do everything right, so every detail has been exquisitely crafted, a beautiful reflection of his supportive attitude towards building.
