Montecito Shingle Style

This was originally a one-story farmhouse when Montecito was known – hard to imagine – more for citrus than landed gentry. Over the years it had been updated and given a second story and turned into something of a Shingle Style, all rather nicely done. But now more rooms were needed including, of course, a billiard room. A new two-story wing was added, carefully threaded between two ancient oaks on caissoned footings to protect the roots and a tower structure was added at the juncture with the old to act as a hinge point. The goal, as is usual at BHN, was to make the addition look as if it had always been there.
